Okay so the save system is pretty interesting in this one, and I've gotten pretty used to how it works after playing for a while. You'll mainly be saving when you sleep in beds you actually own or rent, which is pretty realistic when you think about it. Random beds won't do anything for you though, so don't count on those.

One thing that's really helpful to know is that you can grab these drinks called Saviour Schnapps that let you save manually through the menu. You can find them around, buy them or even brew them yourself if you're into that. The game definitely keeps you on your toes since you can't just save whenever you want, and it makes everything feel more intense because your decisions actually stick. Maybe interesting - when you're taking a coach between towns it'll save automatically, which is nice if you're running low on Schnapps.

The game does throw you some bones with autosaves during important quest moments, and there's also this neat save and quit feature that makes a temporary file, but just remember it gets deleted once you load back in. I've learned to always keep a few Schnapps handy and to remember where my owned beds are, it really helps avoid those frustrating moments when you need to save but can't.
