so in bg3 classes can technically wield any weapon but they suffer heavily unless its their specialization so how does the weapon proficiency rule different from the tabletop game
US
Its easier than youd think once you understand the key differences in how proficiency works. Theres the whole Weapon Actions system where youll unlock special moves like Pommel Strike or Cleave, but only when youre actually proficient with that weapon type which adds a nice tactical layer. Really interesting thing about weapon management, you can freely swap between different weapon sets and dip any weapon in elements for extra damage regardless of proficiency, just remember the dipping is always a bonus action
The proficiency system gets more practical when you consider theres no attunement limits holding you back from equipping multiple magical weapons, and youll want to take advantage of that flexibility. Combat gets pretty interesting with opportunity attacks working similar to tabletop rules, just make sure youre wielding something youre comfortable with. One thing to keep in mind about unarmed combat, unless youre running a monk youll need to have your hands free of melee weapons to throw those punches which is different from how it usually works
The whole system really opens up once you start playing with different weapon combinations and their special abilities, especially when you start thinking about positioning and timing your actions. Mixing regular attacks with weapon-specific moves while taking advantage of environmental effects can make a huge difference in tougher fights
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons, where your choices shape a tale of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power.

for example i want Wyll to be able to use magic that Gale uses despite him being a Warlock - so basically the difference would probably lie on their cantrips and spells??? kind of confused need help
