afaik perception checks help deal with hidden traps as well as hidden stashes - with that said which character should i control for it

The key thing about finding hidden treasures is watching for subtle visual cues that hint at secret spots, especially around environment details that seem slightly off. When exploring an area, carefully scan surfaces and terrain features, as successful perception checks will highlight small indicators like disturbed ground or unusual wall patterns that mean theres something worth investigating. The timing of these checks is automatic but positioning matters - getting close enough to trigger the check radius is essential, and sometimes you'll need to adjust your angle to spot certain details.
Rangers clerics and druids excel at this since they get bonuses to wisdom checks, and youll want to position them at the front of your party to maximize their passive detection range. Good to know that failed checks can be retried with different party members, and having the guidance spell ready gives you an extra edge when investigating suspicious areas. The sweet spot for finding most secrets is right after entering a new area while its still fully loaded, and if you notice a faint shimmer or odd texture thats usually your cue to investigate further.
Remember that certain equipment pieces boost perception specifically - the mask of soul Perception gives a +2 bonus which makes a huge difference for spotting those really well-hidden stashes, especially in darker areas where visual details are harder to spot. Watch particularly for areas where the terrain seems unnaturally smooth or where architectural elements don't quite line up, as these often indicate concealed mechanisms or illusory walls that need a successful check to reveal.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons, where your choices shape a tale of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power.
