To break it down, you'll want to time your resource runs based on how far you've progressed. Start exploring crazy willie's early on since it's packed with kerosene, scrap and basic supplies, while marion forks nearby offers decent amounts of cans and gunpowder components just watch for nests when scavenging. The real sweet spot once you're better equipped is definitely around berley lake where four cabins northwest of the camp consistently give good materials, but timing is important here since freakers tend to congregate after dark.
When you're ready to push harder content, the old sawmill becomes available which is tricky but worth it - wait until night when activity drops then slip into the train tunnel or main building, staying low and watching your noise level carefully. The medical unit usually has what you need but remember freakers can still detect you even in stealth mode if you're too close.
For the really advanced stuff, you'll want to hit spruce lake nero checkpoint up in crater lake territory, definitely one of the more dangerous zones but the rare components are worth the risk. The highlands around iron butte also hide some good spots, just keep an eye on your surroundings especially near abandoned gas stations since marauders love setting up there. Tip: upgrading your survival vision skills makes spotting materials way easier, and don't forget to max out your carrying capacity when you can since you'll want to grab everything possible during these runs.
Ride and fight into a deadly, post pandemic America. Play as Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who rides the broken road, fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live in this open-world action-adventure game.
