Finding three strikes farmstead is your best bet, it's a two-story building with everything you need to survive plus a workbench inside. Grab supplies from community hall in thomson's crossing if you're nearby, or the radio control hut works too but it's more isolated. Use power lines and the river to navigate, they'll guide you to populated areas when visibility gets rough.

Look for a single prepper cache while exploring, they're great for early supplies but remember only one spawns per game unless you're playing interloper then none appear. Signal hill tower gives amazing views on clear days, helpful to spot where you're going, but the weather turns nasty quick in pleasant valley so always keep some coal handy for emergencies. Caves work in a pinch but you'll want proper shelter with four walls, those blizzards are no joke and can last forever.

Pretty much any path heading west from crash site will get you somewhere useful, just follow the creek beds if you get lost and keep an eye on your temperature, this region doesn't play nice with wanderers.
