I've encountered this exact situation quite a bit and here's what i've learned through experience: sleeping indoors definitely helps but those predators can be pretty persistent when morning comes around. The really solid shelters, the ones where you get that loading screen when entering, those are your safest bet but places like cars or cave entrances won't give you complete protection from wildlife that might be lurking around.
Something interesting i've noticed is that wolves especially like hanging around popular spots like camp office, and they're pretty smart about waiting near exits. It's always worth taking a moment to peek through windows or crack the door open before just walking out. A good habit i've developed is keeping a torch or flare handy when i'm ready to head out since both bears and wolves really don't like fire, and it's saved me more times than i can count.
One thing that often catches people off guard is how food storage affects this whole situation. If you've got meat stored outside or near your shelter, you're basically setting up a welcome sign for predators right at your doorstep. Better to keep that stuff inside or in proper containers if you don't want an unwelcome welcome party in the morning. Sure, sleeping indoors keeps you safe through the night, but morning exits need just as much planning as any other outdoor activity especially if you want to avoid any nasty surprises waiting just outside your door.
THE LONG DARK is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.
