Managing your stamina in pleasant valley takes some real planning because of how massive the region is (and those weather changes can really catch you off guard). Let me share what i've learned from countless trips through there...
Your best friend is going to be smart route planning, which means knowing where you can crash when things get rough. This matters because getting caught in the open can drain your energy faster than you'd expect. Try keeping your pack under 30kg, as that extra weight will wear you down especially during those uphill climbs (a good rule is if you're huffing and puffing, you're carrying too much).
Coffee's actually more valuable than most people realize, since it gives you both warmth and energy for about an hour (fatigue reduced perk). Save it for when you really need it though, like pushing through a storm or making that final climb back to base. Taking quick breaks is essential too, and i'd suggest stopping when you still have around half your energy left because, trust me, you don't want to be exhausted when a wolf shows up.
Know how to build snow shelters (15 sticks and 5 cloth is all it takes), as they're absolute lifesavers when you're caught out in the middle of nowhere. Being well-fed before big expeditions gives you that extra carrying capacity, which can make all the difference. Emergency stims should really be your last resort since they'll knock you out pretty hard afterward (learned that one the hard way, but tbh it took me some time, so rest assured).
Here's something interesting - you're actually better off accepting some minor condition loss during exploration than trying to stay perfectly healthy, because that usually leads to worse situations when you get stuck somewhere trying to recover. Just remember, if you're below 30% condition, it's probably time to head back home and try again another day.
THE LONG DARK is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.
