alright so how reliable are the visuals in the game like clouds or snow for impending weather storms etc

Weather patterns work on a few key systems that'll help you stay alive out there. Keep an eye out for those crow formations flying overhead, since they're usually telling you somethings about to change. The number of birds can even give you a rough idea of how many hours until the weather shifts which is pretty handy. That heavy ice fog is another big one, typically means a storm's brewing for the next day.
Different regions have their own quirks when it comes to weather. Pleasant valley loves throwing sudden blizzards your way, while timberwolf mountain just stays bitter cold with frequent storms. Coastal highway tends to be a bit more forgiving, temperature-wise but don't let that fool you. The weather system isn't completely random either, it actually uses some patterns so you won't usually see things like back-to-back blizzards hitting you.
Always smart to carry emergency shelter gear and fire starting stuff with you, since things can turn nasty real quick. The wind direction is worth watching too, sudden changes often mean trouble's coming. Morning hours are usually your safest bet for longer trips, and while the sky colors at dawn might look pretty they aren't really reliable for predictions. Just remember that even with all these hints, the weather can still throw you a curveball so always be ready to adapt your plans on the fly.
THE LONG DARK is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.
