So when you're just getting started, you'll want to grab either an Aurora or Optician gas mask right away - I usually go for the Aurora since it helps with those nasty environmental hazards, but the Optician isnt bad for some extra protection in firefights. Youll start with the Debut Suit which is okay for the basics, but try making your way to the tunnels under the Dome when you can since theres a really solid Explorer Suit down there that'll definitely make life easier. For weapons, I've had good luck with the Boomstick you can find near the Old Mill, or if you're feeling brave you can try taking down some bandits for their M860 Cracker shotguns, those pack a nice punch early on.

Something interesting - keep an eye out for artifacts like Thunderberry in the anomaly fields, they can give you some sweet stamina boosts which really helps when you're starting out. And dont forget to visit the technicians whenever you can, even basic armor upgrades make a huge difference whether youre dealing with mutants or just trying to survive those nasty radiation zones. Trust me, having decent protection early on will save you a lot of headaches later!
