The light and dark stuff in games is pretty interesting actually, its all about how well you can see whats lurking in those shadowy corners. I've noticed most games handle this really well these days, like when youre using a flashlight and can only see whats right in front of you, which definitely keeps you on edge. Something cool i learned is that the way enemies spot you usually depends on these cone-shaped vision zones, and the lighting plays a huge part in whether they can see you or not.
The whole thing works kinda like real life, where your eyes need time to adjust to the dark, and a lot of games actually build this into their systems. Its pretty clever how developers handle it honestly - they use these fancy light radius calculations and detection systems that make everything feel natural. I remember playing through some really tense moments where i had to decide between using my light to see better, or keeping it off to stay hidden.
Speaking of which, theres usually this whole risk-reward thing going on with light sources. Sure, you can see better with your flashlight on, but so can everything else that might be hunting you. Ive learned the hard way that sometimes its better to wait in the dark for a bit and let your characters vision adjust, especially when youre trying to conserve those precious battery resources that always seem to run out at the worst times.
