So the engine setup really depends on how big your raft has gotten, and you'll need one engine for every hundred foundations you've built. Building extra engines beyond what you need for your foundation count won't make you go any faster though, and there's actually a speed cap that kicks in around 6 engines, so keep that in mind before going overboard with construction.

Something pretty useful to know, those collection nets don't count towards your foundation total which means you can actually optimize by swapping out regular foundations with nets where possible. Really helps keep your engine count down without sacrificing functionality. For the best performance, you'll want to make sure you've got exactly the right number of engines for your foundation count, but never more than 6 since that's where the speed maxes out at 2.5, and anything beyond that is just wasting resources.

Watch your foundation count carefully, because too many without enough engines will definitely slow you down. Its also worth setting up an efficient fuel system since you'll be burning through quite a bit with multiple engines running especially on longer trips. Once you get the ratio right though, you'll be cruising at maximum speed without any wasted resources or extra engines taking up space.
