so lets say i want to freely switch between difficulty modes in the game. for example i really wanted to experience all hell in tlou2 but some days i feel like meh lets just be like do it for the sake of the storyline and you know im not mechanically bad at all but sometimes i just feel like hey lets see how things unravel between ellie abby joel and this whole thing

I'd start by customizing those difficulty sliders for a more intense survival feel because the game really shines when the stakes are high. The custom settings are where the magic happens, and you'll want to crank up player damage to survivor+ (this makes every encounter feel genuinely threatening), while keeping resources pretty scarce to match that post-apocalyptic vibe.
Enemy ai is fascinating here, because at higher settings they'll actually coordinate and flank you - pretty clever system at work. Setting their effectiveness to survivor+ makes them feel like real survivors instead of just typical game enemies. For stealth detection, i'd definitely push that up too, since realistically, people would be pretty alert in this world (quick side note: listen for whistle signals between enemies, they actually communicate their search patterns).
Here's something interesting - keeping ally effectiveness at moderate actually creates a better balance, because they'll help without stealing your thunder. The beauty is you can tweak all these settings mid-game if things aren't feeling quite right, and don't worry about trophies, they'll unlock regardless of your settings. Most players i've guided through this tend to prefer the high-stakes combination of deadly combat with limited supplies, because it really captures that desperate survival atmosphere we're looking for.
Remember though, start with these settings but don't be afraid to adjust them until they feel right for you - that's why the system is so flexible in the first place.
Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure.

so if you guys have to restart the whole game what are tips that you would give to that new player? ill start. this ones not just applicable in tlou. but usually where theres the storyline points of no return and looting system. my advice is to never be stingy with using consumables and upgrades. ive seen people (me included) hoard stuff and never use it throughout their gameplay. like the game has ended we see the ending and they still have tons of consumables. like come on this aint path of exile

question about resource management. when do you usually guys use your stuff like i could stock a lot of medkits and barely use em. whats that fine line between using stuff and saving them for later vs. straight up hoarding?
