Game Review - by Jeremiah Pratt
Spearhead is the obsession of desire in this article. I-magic games enter again into the realm of Tank Sim Warfare. They failed to have success with their sub-par Panzer-44. But Spearhead makes some but not all improvements of that game. So get ready to Wage War in the World's Best Tank!
Storyline:
The Story is Units from the American Third Division are moving out of the city to sweep Tunisian territory. Joint Libyan/Tunisian armored columns launched a full-scale attack last Wednesday, moving north through Tunisia. The attack was made after Libya's dictator accused the president of Tunisia of plotting to assassinate him. The Tunisian-banned underground Islamic fundamentalist party, Al_Nahda, Has joined forces with the Libyans. Your job is to blow the Living crap out of these Libyan terrorists. End of story.
Features:
The features are something to talk about in Spearhead. There are some really good ones and some I didn't get. The best Feature I noticed was the Mission Editor. Where you can mess with any mission and create your own way. One thing that struck me funny is the desktop must be set at 640x480(16-bit color) or lower. I really did not have fun switching my monitor settings each time I played this game.
Graphics:
The Graphics are a tough call. As for the terrain, not much to say about it you'll experience miles and miles of sand. There are some hills that are about it sorry. The details on the little soldiers running around are better than the scenery. When you're not shooting or blowing stuff up, try to stay awake while driving around. It's tough believe me other that that the explosions are cool.
Sound FX:
The Sound FX are ok, I noticed only a few. The sound of your tank moving is pretty cool. Other than that not much goes on in this category. Although I almost forgot, there are very good voice over in spearhead. I failed to hear a soundtrack maybe because there isn't one.
Gameplay:
The Gameplay is again sub-par; spearhead is definitely a little to on the action side, forgetting about the Sim part. But don't get me wrong this is still a pretty damn good tank game. The mix of action and sim is enough to have fun. Plus the campaigns are fairly adaptive. Your not quite sure were you're going or what's going to happen. The Multiplayer options in this game keep it thriving. You can have secure and non-secure communications. Plus there are more connection options to choose from.
Overall:
Overall, this isn't a bad game despite some graphic flaws. And can't forget about those miles of sand dunes. But it is a hardcore tank sim; the action is more arcadish. Not that I have problem with this is just fine.
